Developers have caught on to the modern concern of global warming and are increasingly laying emphasis on developing eco-friendly green buildings.
It is now time to realize the effects of global warming.Proclaiming some 'major steps to protect the environment' on World Environment Day is not enough.Fortunately, developers have caught on to this global concern and are increasingly laying emphasis on developing eco-friendly 'green buildings'.
A green building offers passive designs that reduce electricity consumption and its active features enhance occupant's health and productivity. Some projects like Green Boulevard and Patni Campus at Noida and Wipro Campus at Gurgaon, which are Platinum rated LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certified green buildings, serve as the perfect examples which help in high energy savings.LEED is a US Green Building Council rating.
The townships that are green in India include the 600-acre Uttarayan township in Siliguri and Pioneer Urban Park in Gurgaon.Pioneer Urban Park is a 75-acre mixeduse community township on Golf Course Extension Road,Gurgaon. It offers residential living,corporate-work environment and will be an entertainment destination. Its environmentally sensitive and sustainable design has been awarded a 'Gold Grading' by the Union ministry of environment and forests.
Vikas Gupta, director of Earth Infrastructures, says: "The architectural design should focus on passive heating and cooling methods so as to utilize natural energy and minimize the use of artificial resources.Even the interiors have energy efficient features like insulated rooftops, wooden door frames and terrace gardens. All projects by Earth Infrastructures are inspired by the elements of nature and are recognized by the LEED,India. It holds true for even the newly-launched projects Earth Tech One and Earth Studios in Greater Noida (Yamuna Expressway ) and Earth Copia in Gurgaon."
Ram Gopal Verma, former town planner at DDA,says: Nowadays, buildings have smart design, technology, construction and maintenance elements that lessen the negative impact of a home on environment. The whole idea of a green development is to reduce the carbon footprint.A green project is usually certified by LEED advocated by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Teri GRIHA (The Energy and Resource Institute - Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment).
